International Coastal Clean Up 2015

The activist is not the man who says the river is dirty.

The activist is the man who cleans up the river.  -Ross Perot

Environmental tip of the day:  Don't hose down patios and sidewalks--sweep them. Hosing wastes water and carries contaminants into freshwater systems.

The Friends of Tamanend Park teamed up with the Ocean Conservancy on Saturday, September 19, 2015 from 10 AM to 1 PM to participate in the 2015 annnual International Coastal Cleanup. Gloves and trash bags were supplied to all of the volunteers. All of the debris will be weighed and the information sent to the Pennsylvania Clean Ways Committee which will enter the data to the ICC.

You may be wondering what Tamanend Park has to do with the Atlantic Ocean.  Well, we have a stream running through the park.  This is considered an inland waterway and the water in it eventually reaches the ocean bringing along with it polluted runoff to become marine debris.  The health of all our rivers, streams, tributaries and lakes, and eventually the ocean depends on the efforts of all our citizens. The following photos are courtesy of photographer, Mark Keefer, from
